5. How We Store and Protect Personal Information

5.1 Security Measures

We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorised access, modification, and disclosure. Our security measures include:

• Passwords stored using industry-standard hashing (bcrypt)
• Access controls limiting who within our team can access personal data
• Regular security review of our WordPress installation and plugins
• Wordfence Web Application Firewall protecting against common attacks
• Row Level Security (RLS) policies in our Supabase database

5.2 Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this Policy or as required by law:

• Account data — retained for the life of your account plus 24 months after deletion request
• Newsletter subscriber data — retained until you unsubscribe, then deleted within 30 days
• Analytics data — Google Analytics data retained for 14 months per our GA4 settings; Supabase behavioural data retained for 24 months
• Price alert data — retained until you delete the alert or close your account
• Email communications — retained for 12 months

When we no longer need personal information we will take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it securely.

6. Overseas Disclosure of Personal Information

We disclose some personal information to overseas recipients. Under APP 8, we are required to inform you of this.

Before disclosing personal information to these overseas recipients we have taken reasonable steps to ensure they are required to comply with the APPs or a privacy framework providing substantially similar protections. Each of the above providers is certified under relevant frameworks (e.g. US-EU Data Privacy Framework where applicable).

You acknowledge that by using our service, your personal information may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries. By using Discount Offers, you consent to this transfer.

7. Disclosure to Third Parties

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We may disclose personal information to:

• Affiliate networks (e.g. Commission Factory, Amazon Associates) — limited to click tracking data to process commissions; we do not share your name or email address
• Our hosting provider (DreamIT Host, Australia) — for site hosting only
• Law enforcement or government bodies — if required by Australian law, court order, or to prevent serious harm
• A purchaser of our business — in the event of a merger, acquisition, restructure, or sale of Discount Offers, personal information may be transferred as part of that business transaction, subject to equivalent privacy protections. We will notify you of any such transfer via email or site notice.

We will not disclose your personal information to any other third party without your consent unless permitted or required by law.

8. Third-Party Websites

When you click through from Discount Offers to a retailer’s website, that retailer’s own privacy policy and terms apply. We have no control over, and accept no responsibility for, the privacy practices or content of any third-party website. We recommend reviewing the retailer’s privacy policy before providing personal information or completing a purchase.

You may request access to the personal information we hold about you at any time. We will respond within 30 days. We will not charge a fee for making an access request, though we may charge a reasonable fee for providing access where large volumes of data are involved.

9.2 Right to Correction (APP 13)

If you believe the personal information we hold about you is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant, or misleading, you may request we correct it. We will respond within 30 days.

9.3 Right to Deletion

You may request deletion of your account and personal information at any time by emailing hello@discountoffers.com.au. We will complete deletion within 30 days, subject to any legal retention requirements.

9.4 Right to Opt Out of Direct Marketing

If you receive direct marketing from us (e.g. our weekly newsletter or price alerts) you may opt out at any time by:

Under the Spam Act 2003 (Cth), we are required to process unsubscribe requests promptly. We will action all unsubscribe requests within 2 business days.

Where practicable, you may use our site anonymously — for example, browsing deals without creating an account. However, some features (price alerts, saved deals, newsletter) require you to provide personal information.
